Musical Theatre Workshop: Song Interpretation and Audition Technique

We have invited an Award Winning songwriting duo from New York City to come host a Musical Theater Workshop on August 15th! This is an open event for students aged 9-18 with a limit of 9 spots. Located at 756 N. Chase St.

The workshop will include:

  • Teaching Audition Techniques using a song that students choose ahead of time

  • Working with Selda and Derek on Song Interpretation

  • Rehearsing the song with a live accompanist

  • Q&A with Selda and Derek about musical theater in NYC

$100 will include the workshop, dinner and a performance for parents. Please fill out the form below if you are interested in registering!


More about the artists:

Selda Sahin and Derek Gregor are an NYC-based writing team for the stage and screen. They wrote the original songs for the feature film AMERICAN REJECT (feat. Keala Settle, Angelica Hale, Rebecca Black, Annaleigh Ashford, Juvenile, Billy Ray Cyrus). Their musical MODERN following a group of Amish teens on Rumspringa was selected for both the “Grow A Show” ASCAP Workshop and the Stephen Schwartz ASCAP Workshop and is receiving further development around the country. Their musical PARTICLE (developed w/with Autumn Reeser) was selected for Michigan State University’s Imagen program and will receive a workshop/production at The Alleyway Theatre (Buffalo NY) in 2024. Their award-winning film GRIND (Anthony Rapp and Claire Coffee) is available for streaming. Derek’s musical UNLOCK’D (developed w/ Sam Carner) had an extended Off-Broadway run at the Duke Theatre (NY Times-“Gorgeous”.) Selda received a commission from The Atlanta Opera for a new work to be premiered in their 2024/2025 season.

As guest artists, Selda and Derek have led workshops at NYU, Yale, University of Michigan, Princeton, UC Irvine, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts among others. Derek is a recipient of a Richard Rogers award, a John Wallowitch award and a MAC award. Selda was selected for both the ASCAP Songwriters Collective, the ASCAP Country Music Workshop and holds an Emmy for her work on “PASSION Live at Lincoln Center”.
